Newsflash

This month saw some big events in the Karasac calendar.

Firstly it was our pleasure to welcome back Sifu Rick Faye of the Minnesota Kali Group . Paul has been training with Rick for 13 years and this was a great opportunity for new students to be exposed to Rick’s excellent knowledge and teaching methods.

Sifu Faye concentrated on Panantukan the phillipino art of boxing and empty hand techniques during his seminar & displayed an aptitude, knowledge and understanding that has made him one of the worlds leading exponents of this devastating art.

We look forward to Sifu Fayes next trip to these shores and thank him again for all his kind help and unselfish sharing of the Arts.Paul was greatly honoured and privileged to be promoted by Rick to a Level I Associate Instructor MKG.

We also travelled to Germany to attend Guro Inosanto’s seminar in Spiere and which was as good as ever – Guro continues to inspire and astound us all with his unsurpassed knowledge and abilities in a whole host of Arts.

The seminar covered a myriad of topics and systems including Stick & Knife, Single Stick, Knife, Jun Fan Gung Fu (Trapping) & Kickboxing, Kali/Silat amongst others.

We would like to thank Udo for his kind hospitality and for putting on one of the most enjoyable and friendly seminars in Europe. We will definitely be back next year.

Silat & Kali the deadly indigenous fighting arts of the Philipines, Indonesia,  & Malaysian islands. A comparison and contrast from the viewpoint of an interested party.

The Arts, many and varied, that constitute the diverse Martial Arts that are collectively referred to as Silat & Kali encompass a vast and myriad range of  styles incorporating techniques from literally hundreds if not thousands of systems involving both empty hand and weapons based styles.

Indeed these styles and systems originate from all across Indonesia, Malaysia and the Southern Phillipines. This is reflected within the title of Guro Inosanto’s own personal style of Silat known as Maphilindo and which is a composite derived from the words Malaysia; Phillipines; and Indonesia.

The Indonesian systems are Often referred to as Pejak Silat the two terms literally translated meaning distinctively Self-Defence and the form or ‘Art’ of self-defence. Thus whilst integrally linked these two distinct elements can be distinguished and practiced separately. Indeed different practitioners and systems may often have a totally different emphasis within their training based upon one or other form.
